Virus will not keep Rooney out of Newcastle clash

Wayne Rooney will be available for Wednesday night's league clash with Newcastle United despite suffering from a virus in the last few days.

The Manchester United striker was forced out of Sunday's Carling Cup triumph over Tottenham but Sir Alex Ferguson said he would take his place at St James' Park.

"He's fine. He trained yesterday, he trained today and he will be available for tomorrow," Ferguson told Sky Sports News.
