Premium ticket holders for Lionel Messi's charity match at Chicago's Soldier Field will receive refunds according to the Chicago Tribune.
VIP ticket purchasers paid up to $2,500 for on-field seating for the 'Messi & Friends vs. the Rest of the World' exhibition last Saturday and were expecting to meet the Barcelona star and other famous players who would sign memorabilia.
However, Messi failed to turn up to a scheduled pre-game event and also disappeared after coming off the pitch in the 68th minute of match. The proposed 35 other players from top leagues was also cut to just 15 meaning college players had to fill the squads.
Event promoter Numero 5 Producciones LLC have not yet commented on the flop but it is believed that those who paid for premium tickets will be reimbursed, although it is unclear if any other attendees will get their money back.
