Villa's Petrov desperate for derby action

Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov wants a key role for this weekend's derby against Birmingham City.

And he insists his Old Firm experience could be a key factor in helping O'Neill's side win Sunday's clash with arch-rivals Birmingham at St Andrew's.

The midfielder has not played in a local derby in England. And he said: "To score the winner against Birmingham would be a dream for me.

"I had a very good record playing for Celtic against Rangers when I scored one or two winners.

"All the Villa players have been talking about the Birmingham derby for a long time and everyone wants to play in it."

Petrov is still to convince the Villa fans he is worthy of a regular starting spot ahead of emerging youngsters Craig Gardner and Isaiah Osbourne.

He added: "It has been a big challenge for me to force my way back into the team.

"Nobody's safe, so we're all working hard to win the vote from the manager."
