Olof Mellberg will be fit for Aston Villa's clash with Manchester United on Saturday after coming through last night's 1-1 draw for Sweden against Northern Ireland.
The defender had been expected to miss the game, but passed a late fitness test and all but secured a place in next summer's European Championships finals with his goal for the Swedes.
Berger's injury problems began just 24 hours before the opening day clash with Liverpool. Villa manager Martin O'Neill told the club's website: "That was a big set-back for him. It was so frustrating because he was doing very well. Now, if he makes anything like the impact he did last season I will be delighted.
"You know that he is capable of just making things happen. He didn't get long against Leicester City in the cup game (last ten minutes) and then suddenly bang!
"But it was definitely not as severe as the first time, although it was in almost exactly the same position. We'll see how he is for Saturday. I wouldn't rule him out."
