Aston Villa midfielder Craig Gardner has dismissed Zico's claims of "one dimensional" football against CSKA Moscow last week.

"I thought first half we played all the football. The gaffer told us to go out there and be positive and the goal would come," he said. "Obviously we didn't want to lose the game, we wanted a clean sheet but they scored.

"We needed to go out there and score and I thought the whole team were just outstanding.

"We were so unlucky not to win and if we play like we did in the first leg we will get a result in Moscow."
