Aston Villa signing Curtis Davies has defended the way he left West Brom.
Davies was left out of the Baggies first team as he demanded a move away and he explained: "If it had happened on the first day we wouldn't have had a lot of the umming-and-aahing, and people speculating about what was happening with me and the manager and the chairman.
"Other people have tried to leave but it hasn't worked out - and they're heroes at the club.
"I can understand their frustrations with me but at the same time I'm doing this for my career."
And he admits he cannot bear to think of how his Hawthorns hell would have felt if the loan deal had not gone through on Friday.
"The manager has said all along he doesn't want players who don't want to be there and that might have caused a few problems because I obviously didn't want to be there," he said.
"I'm just glad it's done because had I stayed it might have been a rocky road until January.
"There's nothing really I could've gained by being at West Brom for another few months.
"And if the fans were booing me that was only going to be negative for the other players."
