Villa's Carson to get England chance

Aston Villa goalkeeper Scott Carson is set to start in goal for England in Friday's friendly against Austria.

The Daily Mail says if the 22-year-old impresses in Vienna, he is likely to keep his place - ahead of Tottenham's Paul Robinson - for what could be the decisive Group E qualifier against Croatia at Wembley a week on Wednesday.

England head coach Steve McClaren views the Austria game as the ideal opportunity to blood Carson at senior international level after having represented his country 29 times for the Under 21s and twice for the B team. His selection also signifies he has moved ahead of veteran David James.
