Carew told Villa's website: "This was my first goal after the injury and hopefully this will give me even more of a confidence boost for the next matches.
"I had the chance to take it down inside the area and the defender couldn't tackle me because it would have been a penalty. So I just had a shot at goal and it went in.
"It was difficult to be out injured for six or seven weeks like that, but I am slowly starting to get fit again and it's always good to get goals."
He continued: "The first goal came at an important time. It's always good to have a lead at the break, especially when you're away.
"It was even better after the first 20 minutes in the second-half, when we scored two more goals and we won with efficient football.
"It was a difficult game for us. The match was maybe not the most entertaining to watch, especially in the first-half. But even then we played some good football and got the lead.
"To score three goals in the end is a very strong victory away from home for us and gives us a very strong boost."
