Villas-Boas still holding hope of top-four finish for Tottenham

Andre Villas-Boas believes Tottenham are still capable of holding their position in the top four.

Spurs scored a late leveller through Gylfi Sigurdsson to force a 2-2 draw with Everton despite Emmanuel Adebayor opening the scoring in the first minute.

Phil Jagielka and Kevin Mirallas had the Toffees ahead early in the second half but Spurs managed to grab a point giving Villas-Boas belief that they can hold off North London rivals Arsenal for a place in the Champions League.

"The positive aspect is we've been in this position, chasing, before," said Villas-Boas.

"Arsenal (sitting fifth, two points behind Spurs with a game in hand) feel their belief is because they finish seasons very strongly and that belief helps them.

"We don't look at ghosts in the past. We try to do our job properly. We want to win games.

"I think it could go down to the wire. It depends how many points we can get to the end of the season.

"At least with this break we can focus completely on the Basle game and then we can recover for the Man City game hopefully, with Bale, Lennon and (Jermain) Defoe. It depends how they react to treatment."

Tottenham are next in action against Swiss champions FC Basel in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final second leg but do not have a Premier League fixture next weekend.
