Andre Villas-Boas is looking at Chelsea's experience as something to be taken advantage of rather than a negative that needs major surgery in the transfer market. Nine senior stars at Stamford Bridge are now in their 30s, with question marks raised as to their ability to handle regular competition on multiple fronts.
Villas-Boas however has full faith in those at his disposal - old or young.
"These players still have a lot to offer," said the Portuguese tactician following Chelsea's 4-0 victory over the Thailand All Stars in the latest leg of their pre-season tour of Asia.
"Just look at the trophies they have won and how successful they have been.
"Chelsea are the second or third oldest team in the Premier League and I must respect the recovery periods of the older players.
"So I must find the correct balance between experience and youth and find out what kind of game we can play."
