Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry could miss out on a lucrative sponsorship deal if he fails to win a move to Liverpool.

The Sun says the midfielder is understood to have negotiated a sponsorship deal with sportswear giants adidas worth around £500,000.

But adidas will sign up Barry, currently looked after by Umbro, only if he joins Liverpool. Villa have offered the player a club-record £63,000 a week to remain with them at least one more season.
