Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry says England boss Fabio Capello gives his players leeway to express themselves on the pitch.

Barry, one of the senior players in the 2-1 triumph in Berlin, said: "The big thing is the manager wants us to show our personality on the pitch.

"He wants us to express ourselves like we all do week in, week out in the Premier League.

"It's hard to put a finger on exactly what he has changed. But personality is the big word he uses and he wants us to show it out there."

And Capello's approach has bred belief among the players.

Barry added: "After we conceded the equaliser against Germany we didn't let our heads drop.

"We kept our confidence. We knew we were good enough."
