Villarreal are waiting to pounce for Bayern Munich midfielder Mark van Bommel.

Bayern insisted yesterday they would not consider selling the Dutchman in January, despite his contract expiring at the end of the season.

But Villarreal are monitoring the situation and Bayern insiders expect them to slap in a knockdown bid for Van Bommel to test the water ahead of the winter market opening.
