Everton have failed with a bid for Villarreal striker Jozy Altidore. Marca says Everton made a knockdown bid for the USA international, but received short shrift from Villarreal officials.
Altidore, 19, only moved to Villarreal this season from New York Red Bulls and has already managed six first team games.
Villarreal rate the young forward at around £7 million.
