Villarreal are keen to take Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko on-loan next season.
The Daily Mail says the Spanish club's secretary general Jose Manuel Llaneza is understood to have been in London last week to discuss a deal for the Russia striker.
However, the clubs are some distance apart on a fee. Villarreal were hoping to get their man for about £8.5m, but may rise to about £10m, while the north London club are hoping to recoup most of the £13.8m they paid to Spartak Moscow last summer.
Villarreal may consider paying a fee to take Pavlyuchenko on loan rather than upping their bid to sign him outright.
