Villarreal have received a Europa League boost.

UEFA have confirmed that Villarreal will take Real Mallorca's place in the Europa League should the islanders fail in their appeal against their expulsion from the competition.

European football's governing body announced last night they had denied Mallorca entry to the upcoming season's competition after deeming that they had fallen foul of financial regulations.

Mallorca are set to appeal the decision but Villarreal have announced they had been informed they would be taking the cash-stricken club's place.
