Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini admits his table-topping team were fortunate with victory over Sporting Gijon last night.

Guiseppe Rossi hit the winner for Villarreal, but Pellegrini conceded: "In football we can't speak of justice, only wisdom.

"And we made the most of ours.

"Sporting played the better football, especially in the first-half. I wasn't surprised, despite their recent defeats (to Barcelona and Real Madrid), because they have a good team here."
