Villarreal coach Marcelino: Liverpool play on margins of the rules

Villarreal coach Marcelino hit out at the manner of Liverpool's Europa League semifinal win last night.

The Spanish side were beaten 3-0 on the night, after a 1-0 victory at home in the first-leg meaning Liverpool progressed 3-1 on aggregate.

Marcelino however claims that was down to Liverpool pushing the boundaries of the rules.

"It was tough against an opponent who played with huge amounts of intensity, maybe on the margins of the rules but the referee allowed it" he commented.

"In the context of this game the referee was letting a lot go, so to then see a sending off against you, you make your own conclusions.

"Liverpool played better than us but for all their superiority they didn't create too many chances."
