Villa winger Young plays down individual success

Aston Villa winger Ashley Young has played down his individual awards won last season.

After scooping Barclays Player of the Month awards in September and December, Young went on to be crowned PFA Young Player of the Year.

While admitting the awards gave him a massive confidence boost, he maintains they were largely down to Villa's success as a team.

He told AVTV: "I think it helps your confidence winning awards like that. You see some of the players that have won previously and to have your name alongside them is brilliant for me.

"Obviously I was delighted to pick up two in the space of a couple of months.

"But at the end of the day it is a team game. It's an individual award but without the boys around me I wouldn't be able to win it."
