Villa will pay what it takes for Newcastle striker Owen

Aston Villa are willing to pay what it takes for Newcastle United striker Michael Owen in January.

The Sun says Villa boss Martin O'Neill is desperate to land an experienced striker with a proven goalscoring record to take the weight off Gabby Agbonlahor and John Carew.

And he has got owner Randy Lerner's backing to throw his hat into the ring if Newcastle's deposed England striker becomes available.

Owen, 28, is in the final season of his Toon contract and has been linked with a £5million move to Chelsea.
