Villa, West Ham target Campbell confident of transfer breakthrough

Released Notts County defender Sol Campbell remains hopeful of finding a new club before the New Year.

Under current rules, Campbell looks set to have to wait until January to join a new club because he has already played for two sides in 2009.

But he is confident there are ways around the restrictions, although he did not go into details.

"I just want to play football in the right way but everything has to be done in the proper way," Campbell, who has been linked with Aston Villa and West Ham, said.

"There are ways of playing before January; I'm not going to elaborate, but there are ways. Not very soon, but there are ways.

"First of all, I've got to get out of the (County) contract, people have to sign papers. There are lots of things that have to be tied up but I think everyone understands why."
