Villa target Simpson not angling for Newcastle exit

Danny Simpson insists he's happy at Newcastle United.

The former Manchester United fullback was linked with a late move to Aston Villa last week .

Simpson has two years left his current deal and would like to stay on Tyneside, however, with talks ongoing with the Magpies, speculation is expected to continue until the January window.

Simpson told the Evening Chronicle: "As a footballer there will always be rumours or stuff being reported.

"You have to just stay focused and until you get a phone call from the club you are at or you sign on the dotted line elsewhere you have to ignore it.

"I don't pay too much attention to it.

"I have said I am happy here and I don't know where the rumours come from, you just have to take it with a pinch of salt.

"I was just sat watching the TV like everybody else, and seeing where some of my mates were signing."
