Aston Villa are signing Fulham defender Zat Knight in a £4 million deal.

The Sun says Villa boss Martin O'Neill refused to pay £10m for West Brom's Curtis Davies so opted for Knight.

Fulham centre-back Knight, 27, only signed a new three-year contract a month ago.

But Villa are desperately short in defence with Olof Mellberg, Martin Laursen and Gary Cahill the club's only centre-halves.

Ironically, Knight played 56 minutes of Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Villa Park and scored an own goal.
