Villa striker Bent delighted to continue England scoring streak

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent was delighted with another goal for England in victory Wales.

Bent grabbed England's second from a fine cross from Villa team-mate and man of the match Ashley Young, killing the game off big-time.

He said: "I don't know about international football getting easier but Fabio showed faith in me, gave me the nod and I'm delighted to have scored.

"He told me this morning I would be in. There was a lot of speculation, with people saying it wasn't going to be me, it was going to be Andy Carroll or it was going to be Jermain Defoe.

"I kind of expected not to be playing but the manager has picked me, stuck by me and I've repaid that with a goal and the team won.

"He told the team I was playing and he told me what he wanted from me. I said I would go out and do that.

"I was delighted when I found out I was in. I played the full 90 against Denmark and got a goal and I played the full 90 here and got a goal."

And Bent admits he is desperate to keep the No.9 shirt. He said: "I'm finally getting my chance. This is everything I've waited for. I've been waiting for this since I got my first chance in 2005. It's been a long, long wait and finally it has come.

"I'm grabbing on to it and taking it with both hands. It's always hard when you play ten minutes here and there. When you get a run in the side I now have the confidence I can keep it going.

"I want to be No.9 for as long as possible. There are a lot of top strikers around. Hopefully Fabio will keep picking me and I will keep producing the goods."
