Aston Villa midfielder Brett Holman admits that the English Premier League is an enormous step up from what he has played previously.

The 28-year old Australian international joined Villa from AZ Alkmaar in July following a decade in Holland which also saw spells with Feyenoord, Excelsior and NEC Nijmegen.

Since arriving in England, Holman has been impressive for the Birmingham club even though he he feels that the standard of the Premier League is such an increase on the Eredivisie.

"I spent 10 years in Holland and the thing that hits you when play in the premiership is the pace and intensity," he said.

"The energy of the players is amazing, even at training.

"The top teams like Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are unbelievable at keeping the ball.

"So you have to make sure that when you get the ball you don't lose it and you do this by being fast in your decision making because you only get that one split second."
