Villa skipper Barry backs Davies

Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry has urged Curtis Davies not to get down on himself after a disappointing debut in this week's Carling Cup defeat by Leicester City.

Centre-half Davies, 22, on loan from West Brom, says he performed "like a pub player" during his debut. That was his first senior action for more than six months.

But skipper Barry has no doubts the England Under-21 ace will go on to prove his class.

Barry, 26, said: "Curtis has given himself a bit of stick but he'll learn from that game.

"It wasn't the great start he wanted to his Villa career - but I know Curtis will show everyone what a good player he is.

"He has high expectations for himself and that's something we should all have.

"The boss brought him in because he adds quality and that hasn't changed after one match.

"Curtis will come good. We were ALL below par in the Leicester game and we ALL have to bounce back."
