Wayne Routledge's three years at Tottenham cost the Londoners a cool £250,000-a-game.
The winger leaves Spurs after a nightmare three years in which he made just five appearances - at a cost of £250,000 a game.
Routledge, 23, last played in August and admitted recently: "I just want to play in every match. I wouldn't have signed for Tottenham if I didn't think I was good enough."
Spurs did not agree and the emergence of Aaron Lennon held back Routledge's career at White Hart Lane after he broke his foot on his league debut.
Routledge made his debut for Crystal Palace at 16 and earned a £1.25m switch to Spurs.
Now he will try to fill a problem right-sided position for Villa.
