Villa's Milner eyeing strong World Cup performances

Aston Villa midfielder James Milner is targeting a strong showing at the World Cup this year.

The 24-year old, recently named the PFA's Young Footballer of the Year, is expected to be a key player in England's squad despite only starting in one friendly so far and he wants to take the onus on himself to compete against the best teams in the world on a regular basis.

"I don't think playing against Brazil can or should faze me," Milner said.

"I have confidence in my ability as a player and I want to play at the top level and it doesn't come much higher than playing against Brazil!

"Those are the players I want to be playing against week-in, week-out.

"In the Premier League, we play against very good players. The Champions League is obviously the highest at club level and the World Cup at international level and I want to play in those games, improving as a player playing with and against the best."
