Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is hoping he can do some business in the January transfer window following the season-ending injury to Jermain Jenas.
The 28-year old will require surgery after rupturing his Achilles tendon in the 1-0 loss to Manchester United on the weekend and looks to have played his last game for Villa as he was on loan from Tottenham.
Now McLeish will look to act in the winter market so he can cover for the loss of Jenas which was doubled by the fact that fellow midfielder Jean Makoun, on loan at Greek club Olympiakos, had to return to Villa Park after sustaining knee ligament damage.
"It's a shame; it's really bad luck on Jermaine, especially for rupturing his Achilles. He's going to get an operation," said McLeish.
"It's a similar situation to what happened with Jean Makoun. He had to come back here and see us. He got a medial ligament injury so he's going to be out for about two months. It must be hellish for Jermaine.
"We will keep assessing what's happening out there," added McLeish.
"Again as I keep saying we've got to trade carefully but I know Randy (Lerner) and Paul (Faulkner) are right behind us if there's an opportunity for us to do something."
