Villa's Lambert: We gifted Man Utd two goals

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert was unhappy with the way his side 'gifted' Manchester United two of their three goals on Sunday.

Danny Welbeck opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he rammed home Adnan Januzaj's header, which had rebounded off the upright, before adding a second three minutes later when he slid home a well-weighted pass from Antonio Valencia.

Tom Cleverley made it 3-0 early in the second half when he finished neatly after receiving a pass from Wayne Rooney and it was the nature of the goals which prompted Lambert to speak negatively about his side after the defeat.

"That was as well as we started in a few weeks, I thought we were well in the game and then they hit you with that opener," Lambert told Sky Sports.

"But we gifted them two goals, the second and the third was really poor, we had the ball and possession.

"We started the game well but when they are 2-0 up it is hard and we had to get them in at half-time and we talked about trying to get a foot hold in the second half and then we get caught."
