Villa's Lambert confident of retaining Tottenham target Benteke

Aston Villa's Paul Lambert is assured that Christian Benteke will not leave the club this summer.

The 22-year old Belgian striker has netted 14 Premier League goals since his £7million arrival from Genk at the beginning of the campaign and has subsequently attracted interest from Tottenham.

With Villa teetering on the brink of relegation, it is expected that a number of other clubs come in for Benteke, but Lambert is feeling confident of keeping the Villa cult hero who would now attract massive money.

"We get linked with everyone but I don't pay too much attention to speculation," he said.

"We gave Christian the opportunity to go and perform and he has been excellent with the way he has performed and led the line. He has been excellent for us.

"What is he worth now? You'd have to have quite a lot of money to try and get him. In the modern day market, it can be whatever it wants."
