Aston Villa have confirmed that Alan Hutton will undergo surgery to repair damaged ankle ligaments.

The Scottish full-back was injured in a bad challenge by Tottenham's Danny Rose on Sunday and will now be sidelined for up to two months.

"It's a blow. I knew it was a bad tackle at the time, the guy went high and followed through," said Villa boss Alex McLeish.

"He will have an operation next week and will be on the treatment table over the summer."
