Aston Villa midfielder Chris Herd has been withdrawn from the Australian national squad because of an ankle injury.

Aston Villa midfielder Chris Herd has been withdrawn from the Australian national squad because of an ankle injury.

The 22-year old last week received a call-up for two upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Oman (Muscat, Friday 11 November 2011) and Thailand (Bangkok, Tuesday 15 November 2011) but has had to pull out after sustaining the injury on the weekend.

Herd hurt his ankle late in Villa’s 3-2 win over Norwich City on Saturday and after consultation with the player, his club and the Socceroos medical staff, manager Holger Osieck has decided that Perth-born player would not be required in camp.

No additional player has been added to the Socceroos squad to replace Herd.
