Villa's Given fit to represent Republic of Ireland in Euro play-off

Shay Given is confident a neck/back injury will not keep him out of Republic of Ireland's Euro2012 play-off first leg with Estonia on Friday.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper missed Tuesday morning's training session with his national team but insists the problem is not too bad and he will be fine for the trip to Tallinn.

"I felt it [the neck injury] on Friday in training and I had painkillers for the game on Saturday and it just sort of progressively got a little bit worse, but I am feeling a little bit better today so I will be alright," said Given.

"It was just precautionary as they did not want me to do too much to make it worse, but it wouldn't stop me from playing even at its worst."

And Given says the Ireland squad is full of confidence for the two-legged tie which concludes in Dublin on Tuesday.

"There's a belief in our squad that it is our time to qualify hopefully, but obviously we have got two massive games before we can think of next summer," he added.
