Villa’s Dunne facing up to eight weeks on sidelines

Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne could be sidelined for up to eight weeks with a broken collarbone.

The Republic of Ireland international sustained the injury in yesterday’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City when he fell awkwardly after an aerial challenge.

Dunne will require surgery on the problem and is not expected to be back in action until mid-April.

"Richard Dunne sustained a fracture to his right clavicle in the game against Manchester City, " read a statement released on the club's official website.

"He will undergo an operation today (Monday) in Birmingham. It is anticipated that he will be sidelined for up to eight weeks."
