Villa's Clark won't forget maiden Prem goals but insist they were pointless

Aston Villa midfielder Ciaran Clark admits his first two Premier League goals will not be forgotten but insists they are worthless if the team gets nothing from it.

The 21-year old scored twice against Arsenal on Saturday but says the gloss was taken off his performance due to the fact that Villa lost 4-2 and was adamant that his goals meant nothing in the end.

"Against Arsenal, obviously the result took the gloss of my goals. When you score you want it to mean something," he said.

"Yes, it is something I will never forget but we didn't go on and get something."

But Clark hopes the Villa team can take some positivity away from their second 45 minutes of play against the Gunners when they meet Second City rivals Birmingham at St Andrews in the Carling Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night.

"Now we have to take the second-half performance against Arsenal and put that into effect for the whole game at Birmingham - then we will have a good chance," he added.
