Villa's Clark, Norwich's Hoolahan give Rep of Ireland home win over Poland

Republic of Ireland recorded their first victory at home in three matches with a 2-0 result over Poland at Dublin's Aviva Stadium on Wednesday night.

Aston Villa youngster Ciaran Clark opened the scoring in the 35th minute for his first international goal before Norwich City's Wes Hoolahan also got on the scoresheet for the first time for his country with a 76th volley which gave Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny little chance.

Giovanni Trapattoni's men had been beaten at home by Germany 6-1 in October whilst Greece got the better of them 1-0 in November but the Irish managed to turn that poor form around by grabbing a win in Dublin to make it a total of four wins from their past six outings.
