Villa's Benteke intent on quashing Scotland hopes

Christian Benteke is hoping to end Scotland's World Cup chances in Brussels on Tuesday.

The Aston Villa striker and his Belgium teammates host the Scots tomorrow night with defeat potentially putting them eight points behind second-placed Croatia who take on Wales.

Benteke, who scored in Belgium's 3-0 win over Serbia on Friday, says that Marc Wilmots' side are capable of continuing on their winning ways after recording seven points from their opening three matches.

"We have what it takes to remain top of the group," he said.

"We have to keep our run going and beat Scotland on Tuesday. We can savour our win over Serbia but must remember we have not yet guaranteed our place at the finals."

And Benteke is keen to return to Villa after his national team duties with the ability to gloat as his club manager Paul Lambert is a Scotsman.

"The manager didn't say anything to me before I came away on international duty, even though we play Scotland," he added.

"Hopefully when I go back I will be the one doing the talking and hopefully I will be able to make some jokes about the result.

"If I score the winning goal against Scotland I don't know what he will say to me - but that's my job."
