Villa's Bannan thanks Scotland boss for opportunities

Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan has thanked Scotland manager Craig Levein for giving him a chance to show his capabilities on the international scene.

The 21-year old has now made a total of seven national team appearances since his debut in November last year culminating in his most impressive display in the 1-0 Euro2012 qualifying win over Lithuania last month.

Ahead of this weekend's clash with Liechtenstein and Tuesday's meeting with Spain, Bannan told the Scottish Football Association's official website that he was thankful to Levein for giving him game time which has coincided with him featuring in six of Villa's seven unbeaten games this season.

"Obviously the Spain game is a massive one but we are obviously looking forward to the one that's coming on Saturday against Liechtenstein away," he said.

"We're all looking forward to it after the last game as well where we got a good victory and then went away to our clubs and most of us did well with our clubs. We will be a lot fitter than we were in the last two games and we are really looking forward to it.

"When you are at your club and getting more games you are going to be improving week by week but I have to say a big thankyou to the gaffer here because my last game for Scotland against Lithuania played a part in me getting back into my club team so I've got to say a big thankyou to him.

"It just helps your confidence build and if you're confident going into games, nine times out of ten you'll do well. I'm very confident at the minute because I am playing games and this is just going to add to my confidence so I'm looking forward to every game that comes round."
