Aston Villa are closing a deal for Valencia winger Carles Gil today.

The Birmingham Mail says the 22-year-old is expected to join from La Liga outfit Valencia for £3million after personal terms were agreed last night.

Boss Paul Lambert has kept a close eye on the playmaker for a number of years and is now closing in on his man after a lengthy pursuit.

The claret and blues have been searching for creative recruits to boost their squad and Gil is likely to be the first of a few new additions this month.
