Aston Villa No2 Gary McAllister is full of praise for Roy Hodgson over his work at West Bromwich Albion.

Ex-Anfield skipper McAllister also praised Hodgson for getting back into the game so soon after his Liverpool nightmare.

He said: "It's unfortunate it didn't happen for Roy there. It's a club rich with history and tradition and so used to winning.

"But he's shown his character. He's like Gerard as they both love being involved in the game."
