Aston Villa's American goalkeeper Brad Friedel believes Landon Donovan may struggle at Everton.
Donovan, 27, played for Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich earlier in his career - but failed to impress at either club.
And Friedel reckons Donovan will face a real challenge to adapt to life in the Premier League.
Friedel said: "It's tough. He's been over and played in Europe quite a few times and it has never quite come off for him.
"I think we all know that the Premier League is very fast and you've not only got to have physical ability but you have to have mental strength as well."
Friedel, who retired from international football in 2005 after winning 82 caps for the United States, thinks his fellow countryman faces a big task.
He said: "It is going to be interesting to see how he copes with it because the MLS is completely different to the Premier League.
"But good luck to him and we will have to wait to see if he's successful."
