Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel has shrugged off claims he's the best in Premiership history. Villa boss Martin O'Neill has been eulogising about the American veteran and has even likened him to Peter Schmeichel, Pat Jennings and Peter Shilton.

"As a player that's for other people to comment upon," Friedel told the Sunday Mercury.

"This is such a humbling game and I've been in it for quite a while now. You can't get carried away with the positives or the negatives. You have to try to stay focused and on as even a keel as possible.

"To be honest with you I don't get involved in any of it. As a footballer you can only go out and try and do your job as best you can and hopefully you do it well more times that you don't.

"You prefer as a human being for people to give you plaudits as opposed to negativity.

"But at the same time you have to take both when they come and still go into your next game and forget about whether you've own lost or drawn the game before that."
