Aston Villa never made an offer to released Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.
The Express & Star says Villa did make a brief check on Ferdinand - but never offered the former England captain a contract.
Reports the 35-year-old had rejected a contract are wide of the mark as Villa did not table one.
Ferdinand, available on a free after leaving Old Trafford, is believed to prefer a move to London with QPR, managed by his former West Ham boss Harry Redknapp interested.
