West Ham United are ready to welcome Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell as their first January signing.
The Daily Mail says Sidwell underwent medical tests at West Ham yesterday ahead of his proposed move next week.
The midfielder has only just returned from injury, but isn't expected to take part in Villa games before the market opens on January 1.
Sidwell missed out of a move to Fulham in the summer and has been keen on a return to London.
