Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland suffered a suspected broken arm in defeat at Southampton.

Ireland added injury to insult by coming off in pain at half-time and was wearing a sling as Villa departed St Mary's.

"We need to have a look at him actually," said Villa boss Paul Lambert.

"It's his arm he's having a problem with at the minute. I don't know if it would be a fracture, that's the fear of it.
