Aston Villa medical chiefs have concerns over the long-term fitness of club captain Martin Laursen.

The Mirror says Danish stopper Laursen, 31, has been plagued by knee problems since arriving from AC Milan in May 2004 for £3m.

The crocked star is due back next month after surgery, but Villa medics are worried about Laursen's ability to play several matches in quick succession.
