Some of Europe's biggest clubs are chasing the Belgium international striker.
"He's got to keep his feet on the ground," Withe told the Sunday Mercury. "He has to be realistic and for me his realistic thing is to stay at Aston Villa.
"The World Cup's coming up and if he plays and scores goals like he did last year then he'll be in the Belgian team.
"If he goes to Arsenal or wherever and plays one game in 10, is he going to go to the World Cup? I don't think so.
"As a manager you have to be able to keep people's feet on the ground and I think that's what Paul Lambert has tried to do with Benteke."
