Aston Villa legend Alan McInally has revealed how he urged Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce to buy Stuttgart defender Mathieu Delpierre.

The former Bayern Munich striker told footballtalentspotter.com: "Stuttgart have a young Frenchman called Mathieu Delpierre at centre-back - I actually sent a text to Sam Allardyce telling him to buy him!

"I think he is an outstanding defender - comfortable and elegant on the ball, and he can move across the ground very quickly."
