Villa legend McGrath convinced Mourinho has Chelsea looking like champions

Former Manchester United and Aston Villa defender Paul McGrath says Jose Mourinho can lead Chelsea to the Premier League title this season.

McGrath wrote in the Sunday World: "Chelsea are in with a real shout of the Premier League title this season. I just have a feeling that Jose Mourinho could be about to strike gold in his first season back in charge at Stamford Bridge.

"I know that he returned as a boss willing to do the bidding of owner Roman Abramovich, and thus set up Chelsea in a much more attacking mode than was the case in his first term. But I loved what Jose did at Arsenal last Monday night, when he sent out a team set up not to lose.

"It was a real pro's performance from a great coach and an old pro like me would have revelled in it even if I wasn't a Chelsea fan since boyhood. Chelsea were compact, forcing a team that likes to go wide and use its pace on to the inside.

"Their older warriors also came through in a big game and worked really hard on a wild night when there were a few players, on both sides, who didn't want to know. I thought men such as John Terry, Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel were real leaders for the Blues, standing up and fighting for what they wanted, which was at least a point."
